Third Sunday of Advent

December 13, 2009

Dear Parishioners,

The Third Sunday of Advent is called Gaudete Sunday which means Rejoice. We are invited to rejoice because the celebration of the Birth of Jesus is near, our salvation is near at hand. This theme is very emphatic in the second reading. Paul asks the Philippians to rejoice because the Lord is near. The same theme is presented by Evangelist Luke. John the Baptist tells the people how they need to prepare themselves for the Lord's coming. The same invitation is given to each one of us. How am I preparing myself for the celebration of the birth of Christ? In what way can I prepare myself spiritually for the celebration of Christmas?

In the past few months, quite a few of our parishioners at St. Denis and OLW fell ill or underwent surgeries. Often, it happens that I come to know of it after weeks. If you are ill, I will be extremely happy to visit you or bring you communion or make arrangements to have a Eucharistic Minister bring you the Eucharist. However busy I am, I can always find time to visit you. By visiting you I am not doing anything extraordinary, but fulfilling my basic obligation to you as Pastor. So, please feel free to contact me.

Yours Sincerely,
Fr. Jose Shaji, Pastor
